My Role:
My Role within our Exhibits team was to lead the design direction. Starting from the original set of banners that travelled throughout North Carolina, Through our permanent Race Exhibit that has had two versions. From Design, to production and installation, I provided a clear plan and framework to complete this project from beginning to end.
The Main Messages of this exhibit are
Race and human biological variation are separate concepts. The idea of race is about culture, not biology.
We need to understand when and why the idea of race was invented to make progress towards undoing it.
Race and racism are embedded in our everyday lives.
After the major success of RACE: Are We So Different? in 2017, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources decided to bring the exhibit back permanently. Which has had 2 versions, The initial first run to test and work temporarily, and then a final more permanent installation that would transform the hallway into its own exhibit.
